The only real letdown was the carpet in our room, which badly needs a clean or replacement. The rest matched what we expected: a basic room, comfy bed, very clean bathroom, easy check-in, and a simple breakfast. The bathroom was cleaned and the towels changed every day, more service than I expected for the price. We knew about the street noise beforehand and it wasn’t too bad for us, since we’re used to some outside noise. During the heat wave we had to leave the windows open, and there’s no A/C.

The price is the main drawback, though Dublin is expensive wherever you stay. The location worked well, with Trinity College, St. Paul's Cathedral, Christ Church Cathedral, Dublinia, and plenty of old pubs and bars nearby. We were in a room facing Hogan's bar across the road, and the old single-pane windows meant Saturday night was SUPER loud. They’d left free earplugs, which you may need. Sunday was fairly quiet, so I suspect Friday and Saturday are the noisy nights. The room was clean, but the stained carpet could use a deep clean. The TV antenna reception wasn’t great, though it was a smart TV and Netflix worked. The bathroom was fine. We skipped the rain showerhead because it was too high and the water pressure too low, and used the handheld wand instead, which was much better. Breakfast felt disappointing for the price, just a standard cold continental spread, with hot porridge as the only hot option. The pastries were good when fresh, around 8am.

There are lots of small, almost free fixes that would make a difference: a box of Kleenex in the bathroom, a bigger bin than one tiny wrapper, a door knob you can actually open, hot and cold labels on the shower control, and a glass for a drink. The room itself was small but recently updated, with a very comfortable bed, nice shower, and a very nice free breakfast.

Rory made our anniversary stay extra special with a room upgrade, and the room was amazing and immaculate the whole time. He was so welcoming and gave us useful recommendations and local tips for getting around. The location is central, about a five minute walk from Temple bar, but far enough away for a good night's sleep. We’ll stay here when we come back.

I stay here regularly and love it. The rooms are fabulous and spotlessly clean, even if some are small, they’re designed well. Reception staff, based in Kelly's Hotel, are great and always go above and beyond for us. They’re continually improving the premises too. Grafton Street, Temple bar and Wexford Street venues are just a step away. Top marks!
