Harcourt Hotel

My daughter and I had a really enjoyable Monday night at this pretty hotel, and I’d happily stay again. We had a comfortable, clean twin room with an en-suite bathroom, facing the road. The Luas runs below, but its sound was soothing to us. The room had the usual facilities and a great shower. It was a little too warm for our taste, but opening the lovely sash window sorted that out. We once stayed in a nearby high-tech hotel with sealed windows and air conditioning as the only source of fresh air, and felt trapped there. The street noise was what you’d expect at a city hotel: people outside late, doors closing, and guests talking in the corridors.

The lobby and reception look nice, but my room didn’t match the online photos at all. I was put in building 65, away from the main hotel, without being told beforehand. It was on the top floor with no lift, had a ceiling window and poor lighting, and the walls were paper thin. I could hear a neighbour snoring and the tram passing every five minutes. The noise from drunk people was extreme all night, and I barely slept. The hotel isn’t on a party street, but I later learned it has a nightclub in the basement. When people came out around 3-4 AM, the whole street was intensely noisy for about an hour. For a single room costing over 120 €, it felt very low-end and dated. There’s also a 100 € deposit to pay on the spot. I won’t stay again.

The rooms were clean, warm, and laid out well, with tea and coffee facilities, an opening window, an iron and board, a closet, dressing table, and a decent shower room and toilet. The hotel is beautiful, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The doorman is a very nice “big guy” you probably wouldn’t want to mess with 😂. There are lifts, a restaurant and bar, and a nightclub. We didn’t hear the club, though earplugs are in the bedside tables if needed. Shops, restaurants, and parks are fairly close. It’s about a 25-minute walk to the Liffy River and bridges, as well as the famous temple bar.

The rooms are nice, and it’s a great base for getting around Dublin. Camden street is right behind the hotel and is good fun. There’s a nightclub attached, included at no extra cost, but we faced the street and the noise wasn’t a problem for us. Ignore the complaints about it.
