Ledville Castle

The husband helped us arrange a taxi into Dublin, saying taxis were hard to get in that area. We stayed two nights and wished we hadn’t. Although Terese greeted us and showed us to our rooms, and Teresa explained the wifi codes, we never saw her again. The place was difficult to find, and I had to ask someone on the street if we were in the right place. We’d expected a castle, but it was just their house. It smelled of mold and mildew, which I think may have been from the creek beside the property. I wouldn’t recommend it. For what we paid, it was too expensive, and breakfast wasn’t included. I’d look for a B&B instead.

The hosts were helpful, and our room was cosy. We stayed in a wonderful old house with an authentic feel. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it was a great choice for us. Waking up at dawn in the Irish countryside to birdsong was one of the memorable parts of our trip.

We arrived around 2130 and were shown to our room, but we were both utterly disappointed. The furnishings were old and very poor quality, the rugs were stained and dirty, and there was a horrible smell hanging in the air. The mattress looked about 100 years old, or not far off. We paid £180 for two nights but left after one, following a restless night coughing from the dust and feeling uncomfortable. Very poor.

We really enjoyed staying at Ledville Castle. It’s a distinctive old place in the green belt countryside just outside Dublin. The period charm, clean rooms, fresh air and relaxed, friendly hosts all made it a pleasure.
