I've stayed here several times and have never had a complaint. A couple of years ago I brought my wife and teenagers, and we were all happy. The welcome is great, the bed is comfortable, and breakfast is good. It's handy for walking into central Dublin, about 10-15 minutes, and good value for money. If you need parking, Catherine will do her best to help.
Don't let the price put you off. I've stayed at the Maian Guest House a few times over the years when visiting Dublin, and it's a great little budget B&B. The welcome is warm, the staff are helpful, and breakfast is good. Rooms are basic and functional.
I can't recommend staying here because of the long-term residents. There was constant noise from screaming children and yelling parents, and I don't know how anyone could rest at the guest house. Staff should ask the "crèche/ day care facility" that's formed at the back by the swings to use Mount Joy Square Park, a minute away, if they're going to yell at the top of their lungs all day.
The host was a nice lady, and breakfast was good, though it was served for only one hour. The location is good too, about a 20-minute walk to the centre. But the place is very old and shabby, and the room was tiny. I wouldn't want to stay there again.
