Killaloe Hotel & Spa

The food was delicious and great value, and our room was immaculate. We treated ourselves to room service, and everything arrived hot, looked good, and was exactly what we'd ordered. I spent two nights at this lovely hotel and felt completely spoilt. Every member of staff, from reception to the restaurant and Spa team, was delightful. Highly recommend.

We got a handy deal for one night with breakfast, but the rooms were freezing, which made it unsuitable for winter. I complained to reception a couple of times and was told the heater only comes on at a set time. There was also a mix-up with the keys: after we'd checked in, another guest opened our room with a key. The staff seemed to be doing the bare minimum.

The restaurant is lovely, and the staff are very nice, but the deluxe family room was a letdown. The sheets felt damp, as if they hadn't dried properly, and the bathroom wasn't clean, with pinkish water stains. It felt like a poor three-star hotel, not the four-star place it claims to be. Outside the room, there was a nice smoking area with a table and chairs, but no shelter. Moss dropping from the roof hadn't been cleared and was getting onto the carpet. The hotel needs to raise its standards to keep its four stars. We told management the next morning, but they only offered a free lunch, even though they knew we were travelling back to Kerry that morning. We've stayed in much nicer B&Bs. Look elsewhere.

We were visiting from Florida and had a great experience with the staff when storm Eowyn hit last January. We had extended our stay because the storm was coming, and the power went out for the rest of our time there. The staff worked hard to keep everyone comfortable and well looked after, and handled unhappy guests very professionally. The breakfast waitress, who was originally from Spain, was especially lovely. I'd highly recommend the hotel for its friendly staff.
