Eviston House Hotel

We got a room at Eviston House Hotel at short notice for a Valentine's Parkrun trip to Killarney. Check-in was easy when we arrived around 9pm, and the staff were pleasant. The room was a good size, with a roomy shower and good water pressure, and the bed was comfortable. We also managed a late dinner in the restaurant, and the food was lovely.

The room and bathroom were lovely, and they were well serviced during my stay. Food was tasty, the price was reasonable, the location was great, and the staff were really helpful. As a woman travelling alone, though, I found having so many IPAS residents there and all the corridors leading to my room unsettling. One morning there was a huge blob of phlegm on the carpet in the middle of a corridor. Who does that?

There’s a bar and restaurant at the hotel, plus free off-street parking on site behind it. The location worked well for staying in the entertainment district, and we were very pleased with our visit. There’s no AC, for my American friends, but the windows open all the way and let in plenty of air. We'd stay again.

Staff were friendly and helpful, and the central location suited us since we had our little dog with us. The noise was a real problem both nights, though. Our room was beside a function room, and on Thursday children ran up and down the hall, slammed doors and shouted. It upset our normally calm, quiet dog, who barked and was very unsettled. I saw three teenagers play fighting outside our door and asked them nicely to quiet down, but they didn't. Around midnight my partner went to reception, and a kind staff member sorted it out. The next night, teenage boys were making noise again. I asked them to be quiet, with no luck, then looked into the function room and realized there were Ukrainian families socializing. I had no issue with them, but a dog-friendly room beside a function room may not be the best setup. I called reception, and the same kind staff member handled it again. I can't fault the staff or the location, but our poor dog hardly slept, so advertising the place as dog friendly seems questionable.
