Abbey Court

Dinner with my mother was a great night. The feather blade of beef was one of the best meals I’ve had in ages, and there was fantastic trad music after we ate. Declan, the floor manager, came by twice to see how we were doing and chatted with me about the local beer from the Templemore brewery after I asked what was on draught. A lovely touch. The floor staff were attentive, and Angela and Dan are a real credit to the team.

The bathroom was a favourite, and the room was clean and very nice. We had a wonderful night here with friendly staff who were happy to share information. Breakfast was very good too. I’d highly recommend a stay, and I’d love to come back.

The lobby was one of the best parts, with plenty of comfortable seating, a coffee dock in the corner, and a lively feel from people meeting or working there. It’s a lovely spot to sit with a client, colleague, friends, or family. I met Peter Fitzgibbon, Operations Manager, there. He greeted me without being approached, and when I complimented the hotel, staff, and lobby, he was gracious and appreciative. We exchanged business cards, a nice end to a great stay. I travel a lot for work and conduct mystery shops for retail and corporate clients, and Abbey Court stood out. I wasn’t mystery shopping the hotel, but felt it deserved a great review. Staff around the hotel were friendly. Georgia in the Bar, April at Reception, and Davie in the Gym deserve a mention. Davie was especially helpful, giving me an introduction to the facilities without being asked and having a friendly chat. That means a lot when you’re travelling alone. The bar food was exceptional. My feather blade beef was cooked perfectly, with beautiful gravy and firm, not overcooked vegetables. I asked for it extra hot and that’s how it arrived. Breakfast staff were engaging and friendly too. The room was simple, clean, no fuss, and very generous in size, just right for a work trip. We ordered the fish and chips from the à la carte menu, and they were terrific: fresh fish in a lovely crisp batter, with fries, peas, and tartare sauce. The restaurant also has carvery lunches, and there’s excellent coffee in the foyer. Highly recommended!
