The Redbank House

We paid for two nights but left after one, and won't stay here again. In the morning we ordered two full Irish breakfasts, as listed on the menu: two sausages, two rashers of bacon, and two hash browns each. The worker who'd been there the day before took the order, then brought one of each per plate. When we pointed out what we'd ordered, he said they don't serve the full amount because it gets wasted. Yet the couple beside us got two of everything. How is that acceptable service? The night before, we found the room had tea-making supplies but no kettle. There was no drinking water, and nobody at Reception when we went looking for help. Getting into the place was a problem too. We were told check-in was at 3 pm, but the door was shut and nobody answered either our knocks or calls. Three other couples were waiting. We eventually reached someone on a private mobile number and were told to wait. About 25 minutes later a worker let us in, then asked us to wait while he checked whether our room was ready. Five minutes after that, we got the key. The room had a strange air freshener smell. It looked very vintage, but the sheets were stained and there was dust on top of the mirror. You can technically sleep there and get a warm shower, but the whole stay was a disaster.

The owner and chef came over during breakfast on several mornings to ask how I was and whether I was enjoying my stay. I felt well looked after from the moment I arrived at Red Bank House in September 2008 until I left. My room was roomy and comfortable, and the food was excellent. I'd gladly recommend it if you're looking for a good B&B in Skerries.

My husband and I come back at least six times a year, and this is our favourite place to stay in Ireland. The restaurant food is top class, and breakfast is amazing. Everything is spotless, and the staff are both kind and professional. Terry McEvoy is a real gent and a wonderful chef. He connects so well with customers, and he and his staff work hard to make the food and the whole experience lovely. We just love this place. I'd recommend Red Bank 100% for a beautiful, relaxing break.

Parking is on a public road and you have to pay, though you can top it up overnight for the morning, so there's no need to rush out before breakfast. Breakfast was very nice, served by a lovely lady. We stayed recently and were really happy with the cosy, well-kept room, and the owner was very friendly. It's in a great spot for walking around Skerries, and I'd happily recommend it.
