The Failte B&B

The breakfast was delicious and set us up for the day, and Patricia, Colette and the rest of the team made us feel like part of the family. They couldn’t have done more to make our two-night stay memorable. The B&B is in a quiet cul-de-sac, within walking distance of Slane Castle and the village. Our room was spotless and the new bathroom was lovely. A really welcoming place. Many thanks.

The breakfast was a real bright spot: there was plenty of delicious food, and the friendly, polite woman preparing it was very patient with guests arriving late after the big day. I assume she was the owner. The building has a nice appearance and parking spaces, and a polite young man showed us to our rooms when we arrived for a two-night stay for a wedding in Slane with family. Finding Failte after dark was difficult. It’s up a side street from the main road, and the sign on the gable wasn’t lit, so we had to stop several times to ask for directions. We were spread through the house, and I got the Cinderella suite in the attic. It was average-sized, with a small shower, toilet and sink, plus a kettle and coffee. The bedding and carpet were dull and worn, and the floorboards squeaked with every step. The skylight wouldn’t lock shut, and getting the blinds closed took a lot of effort. We were lucky the weather was beautiful and no rain came in. I saw a nicely furnished room with lovely bedding on my way downstairs, and it’s the one advertised on this website. That wasn’t my experience, and my family had similar complaints. My advice to the owner: spend a few hundred on each room’s makeover and this could be the best B&B in town.

After four hours of steady monsoon rain, my colleague and I were invited in for a full breakfast and tea, which was a welcome shelter and a lovely fry. We were outside doing security for guns and roses at this beautiful group of houses, and they went well out of their way to show some kindness during a hard working day.

There are four large solar panels on the roof, so hot showers are always available. This lovely B&B is in the centre of Slane, on the Navan road just past the Garda Station.
