The pasta with white sauce, mussels and prawns was lovely. I’d ordered it as a starter, though you can get a full portion too. The woman at reception saw I was cold and offered to bring a radiator to our room, such a thoughtful welcome. There’s parking at the hotel, and we’ll stop in again when we’re passing through.

The waitress was really friendly when we came in for my son's graduation meal today, and my salad was nice. The rest of the food was disappointing for the price, which was over 18 euro for the dinner. My son’s turkey came with big chunks of vegetables and rather dry mash. My partner’s ham sandwich looked unappealing too, just two large bread triangles with ham stuffed in between. It wasn’t busy, and I felt the food could have been presented in a more inviting way.

I only came in for a meal since I live in the area, and the breakfast and service at Cawley’s were both so good. The waffles were fluffy and just right, and the food was delicious. The waitress was lovely and attentive, though I can’t remember her name. I cleared my plate before realizing I’d forgotten to take a photo. I’ll definitely come back! :)

I was looking for somewhere close to Ireland West Knock airport before an early Sunday flight, so I could avoid getting up at half-past-very-early for the two-hour drive from home. Cawley’s is only a 15-minute drive away, in the heart of Tubbercurry, and turned out to be a real find in county Sligo. It has old-fashioned charm and a relaxed feel, without being pretentious or cold like the chain hotels I wanted to avoid. Room rates are favourable, and the bar and restaurant feel honest and welcoming. The staff were friendly, natural and very accommodating. I had the striploin steak with all the trimmings, a Chilean Chiraz, then traditional sherry trifle and ice cream. The barman Matthew was wonderfully chatty and made my Calimocho, just red wine and coke, without blinking. Teresa, from the Cawley family, was also lovely at front of house. It suits all sorts of occasions and guests, from modest-sized weddings and small dinner parties to solo travellers who need a bed, hot shower, strong wifi and a good meal. Cawley’s has been going for 60 years and is still going strong.

I stopped in for breakfast while driving through Tubbercurry, and I’m so glad I did. Jennifer and Theresa were warm and cheerful as soon as I arrived, and Jennifer was a fantastic server, checking twice that everything was right and quickly handling any adjustments. Another young woman with blonde hair and a happy smile came over to check on me as well. I didn’t catch her name, but that extra care really stood out. The place feels cozy, with soft music, thoughtful old-world decor and a lovely dining room. I sat by the window and could see the garden patio with its tables and large umbrellas. I’ll try eating out there next time. There was a little base with a garden rose on my table, one of those charming details that makes the place feel special. If I needed a room while travelling, I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here. I ordered American pancakes with scrambled eggs and hashbrowns à la carte, plus coffee with oat milk. It arrived hot and beautifully arranged, and I enjoyed it with maple syrup. They had other options too. I finished it quickly because it was delicious. Out front, the sign said they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. I’d come back to try more of the menu at another time of day, and recommend giving the place a try. Before ordering, I’d seen Jennifer testing a new cupcake she’d made, filled with white chocolate, raspberry and pistachio. Theresa was praising the flavour combination, and the friendly atmosphere made me feel I’d found the right spot for breakfast.
