The Old Mill Holiday Hostel

This is budget accommodation in a fantastic location, and the beds and room were what I expected for the price. The check-in staff were courteous and helpful. But I was very disappointed by the cancellation policy: our group went from 12 to 11 when one person dropped out a week beforehand, and only a partial refund was offered. More worrying, there was no hot water for anyone in our party on Saturday or Sunday of a busy bank holiday weekend. Make sure you arrive clean, and don't count on being able to shower during your stay unless you like ice cold water.

Shanon and the team gave us a warm welcome and made check-in easy. The hostel is right in the centre of Westport, so everything is within walking distance. I especially recommend a walk around Westport House grounds and forest. The female dorm was comfortable and had room for bags, though there were no lockers. The female bathroom was usable, but the shower requires you to keep pressing the button for water. The location and service make this a great place to stay.

The staff were always friendly and ready to help with anything I needed. The hostel felt like home, with a cozy living room and comfortable rooms, plus a well-equipped kitchen. It's simple, welcoming, organized, and very clean. Westport is easy to explore on foot from here, with restaurants, supermarkets, a park, a movie theater, and public transportation all nearby. I had an excellent stay and definitely recommend it! 🤗

The hostel itself was clean, with nice facilities, but the night was a mess. A group of what seemed like 18 lads were spread across the rooms, stomping, shouting and running around from 1am, then carrying on between 1 and 4am instead of settling down. They were at it again at 8am, waking everyone and ruining the other guests' sleep. The night porter gave up instead of calling the Gardai to remove them. I’m only giving 3 stars because the Gardai should have been called so paying guests could get some rest.
