Market Hotel

A pretty cool place.

We got a good rate for half board during the second Passover holiday, for two adults and a child. The beds were comfortable enough, the room was reasonable, and cleanliness was okay. The shower tap was broken, but they replaced it with a new one after I asked. The food was disappointing, with too little variety and not enough taste. I expected better meat or at least something simple like chocolate spread in the morning. Service was the main issue. They tried, but it wasn’t enough. We’re religious and observe Shabbat, and more than three times the elevator was switched off for Shabbat, leaving us to walk up and down nine floors during Shabbat. Reception said the maintenance man does whatever he wants on his own. That answer seemed amateurish and unserious, and was frustrating. The price was good, but the stay wasn’t satisfactory.

The food was plentiful and delicious, and the kitchen staff were kind and attentive, making a real effort to give us a pleasant experience. The rest of the staff were just as lovely, always smiling and ready to help. The hotel was clean and smelled nice throughout, and we had an amazing stay. They also let us check out on Saturday night without an extra charge. They said it depends on availability, so call ahead to check. Our room wasn’t as modern as the others seemed to be. Maybe they hadn’t renovated that particular one yet, or perhaps it was because we needed a room with a regular door lock rather than an electric one for Shabbat observance. This is a renovated hotel, formerly the Theodore Hotel. We recommend it, and are very grateful to the staff 🙂

The massage at the hotel was excellent. Dinner was decent and there was plenty of food, though breakfast was quite sparse, without the extras usually offered at Israeli breakfasts. The hotel is nicely renovated, and the service was good. For a 3-star place, I wasn’t expecting more, and the stay was good overall.
