The Standard rooms are perfectly fine if all you need is somewhere to sleep. For more room and upgraded features, the Deluxe is worth considering if you want to splurge. Serge and Moti clearly know how to offer clean, stylish Tel Aviv accommodation at an affordable price. The generous kitchen, lovely shared balcony and rooftop made us feel welcome as soon as we arrived. A no-frills boutique hotel in a great part of Jaffa, with a warmth and class I haven't found in many Israeli hotels.

Jaffa is such a lovely town, full of artists, little shops, and nice cafes and restaurants. The hotel is a few small streets back from the waterfront, south of Tel Aviv, and it's a great base. This was my second stay. The place is tidy and clean, with nice decor and lovely service. You can find parking by the beach, but you have to move the car and park it again every 24 hours.

It felt almost like staying in a chicken coop. The room looked nothing like the pictures, and the hygiene was practically nonexistent.

The location is great, and the price looked like good value on paper, but we ran into several serious problems. There was no lift, which is tough if you have lots of bags or can't manage many stairs. Breakfast also meant a voucher for a nearby cafe, not food at the hotel. When we opened our room at check-in, it was messy and clearly hadn't been cleaned or prepared. We asked to move to a lower floor because of our luggage, but were told there was no option. Only after the other issues came up and the hotel was trying to keep us did they suddenly offer a larger room downstairs, though it still meant a steep flight of stairs. It was a very troubling stay. The hotel did resolve it by allowing us to cancel and leave right away.

The room was beautifully decorated and comfortable, and the staff were so welcoming and helpful. The hotel is ideally placed near Jaffa and the beach, with everything easy to reach on foot. I had an amazing stay at hotel elmina and would recommend it to anyone visiting Tel Aviv.
