Old Jaffa Artistic Retreat by Sea N Rent

The lower floor was unbearably hot and stuffy. Its air conditioner doesn’t work, and the windows can’t be opened, so there’s no airflow down there. The gate also doesn’t lock even though it has a keypad. There’s no soap in the apartment unless you count dish soap, and I burned myself on the shower plumbing. The shower switches between scalding and ice cold, while the bathroom sink has no hot water option. “Lux” is misleading. This was the worst stay of my life, even compared with international hostels. Don’t waste your time or money here, you’ll be happier somewhere else.

The apartment was neat, clean and well equipped, with air conditioning, a TV and a balcony overlooking the bay. One small downside was hearing calls from the nearby minaret in the middle of the night.

The hosts are charming and the service and hospitality are first rate. The neighborhood has a lovely feel, with the flea market, cafes and restaurants close by. This is a special place, and I’d especially recommend the penthouse with its sea view. Veronique.
