The bunk stayed quiet when I moved around, and I didn’t see any cockroaches. It was easy to find, with free drinking water, a shared outdoor area, and friendly staff who speak good English and can be reached on WhatsApp. The location is pretty good, right by the beach, with minimarkets nearby. The supermarket and bus station are about 3 km away. The dorm has AC in general, and Zostel customer service on WhatsApp said the guests decide when it runs. I was in the room the whole time the cleaners were there, though, and they switched it off to clean without turning it back on. There’s a rooftop, but it gets hot, and music from a nearby place can be loud. Music over the hostel speakers also started at 8 in the morning, so bring earplugs if you want to sleep longer. The dorm doorframe is low enough that it’s easy to hit your head, and there are no bed curtains. One morning another guest turned on the light, which shone right in my face and woke me. I didn’t report the lack of hot shower water because the cold water felt refreshing. There were lots of mosquitoes in the dorm, with only one electric mosquito bat for the whole hostel. There’s no kitchen or shared room with plates and cutlery for making your own meals. At least one bathroom had widespread mold, which is bad for health; anti-mold spray is sold on Amazon. There’s nowhere to put toiletries by the bathroom sink, apart from the toilet cistern. The sink by the café was very dirty.

The rooms were clean and the atmosphere was relaxed, a nice place to unwind and enjoy Alleppey. The staff made the stay special, always warm and ready to help. Ujwal especially went out of his way to make sure I was comfortable. I had a wonderful stay at Zostel Alleppey.

The staff were such lovely people, and I had a really good time with them. I’ll miss them and the place already! The atmosphere feels soothing and homely, and the food was decent. They cleaned the bathrooms regularly and well, which kept the room and space clean and free of odors.

I meant to stay for two days and wound up there for over a week. Zostel Alleppey has comfortable dorms, a lively social atmosphere, and it’s very close to the beach, so it works well for backpackers or leisure travellers. Kierti and George manage the place really well. Kierti brings the vibe, while George is the person to ask for recommendations and ideas for exploring Alleppey. Try sitting with Josh in the morning, his witty commentary sets a fun tone for the day. I had a great time and am definitely coming back.

I’ve stayed in more than 70 hostels, including 7-8 Zostels, and travelled across 24 states and multiple countries. I don’t usually leave bad reviews. The locals in Allepey were amazing, but the Zostel staff were rude and seemed to be selling services. The community manager was friendly at first, but I felt the intention was to sell services or take money from guests. Teena was okay. I had a noisy stay and couldn’t sleep. Don’t stay here.
