OYO 1676 Hotel Royal Punjab

It's just 100m from the Golden Temple back gate (langar hall), and close to the heritage walk shopping area with subway, dominos, McDonald's, Belgian waffles, and Keventers. We paid 1300/- for one night. This is budget accommodation and family friendly, good for a one-day stay. The hotel is clean, with minimal amenities. The room was small and had no wardrobe; the beds were extremely soft, and there was no toilet paper. There was 24hr steaming hot water. I'd suggest eating out or at the langar rather than ordering meals at the hotel. It's down a very dirty, narrow alley, but no need to worry, that's how most places in Amritsar are located.

The hotel staff were cooperative with us, and we had no issues. We didn't eat there, so I can't comment on the food. The location is very near the Golden temple, but it's down a congested lane. A taxi or car might not reach the gate, and you may need to carry luggage around 650 meters from the nearest chowk. We got to the gate because we arrived at 8 PM and our UBER driver was cooperative. The taxi from the Airport cost around 450 INR. The rooms weren't very big. They have limited water boiler capacity, so during peak bathing times you may get only warm water instead of hot water. In winter, that could be an issue for tourists. One toilet tap came off while we were using it, but they moved us to a new room. Management is a little rigid, so don't expect favors like a slightly late checkout. In my opinion, you can avoid booking ahead in Amritsar unless you're travelling with the aged, a newborn, or on a local occasion day. There are lots and lots of lodging options to explore and book on the spot. When we were there in Dec 2018, make sure you check Saragarhi Niwas for availability. It's managed by the temple trust and offers clean AC rooms for just 1100 INR for 2 people & 1 kid max per room.

The staff were very good and the service was nice. It's a nice hotel at a good price, close to the Golden Temple and within walking distance of jalliawala bagh. The location is prime and easy to find. Rooms are okay for the rates. Breakfast is unlimited, though the choices are limited to things like Puri bhaji, sandwich, and tea or coffee.

The staff were good, 9/10, and the location gets 8/10. Bedding was only 2/10. Average hotel. Be careful booking through OYO, they show different pictures and make false claims, like promising complementary late checkout.
