OYO 29836 Golden Pearl

After a six-hour drive to Goa, we needed a late-night place because our original hotel canceled without even sending a courtesy text. Golden Pearl Beach Resort came through with a last-minute deal, ₹3084 for two rooms. It sounded almost too good, and, well, it was. The rooms were just okay if you could ignore a strange smell strong enough to deserve its own booking.com listing. There was no drinking water. The AC and heater were there, which was both comforting and confusing. The sheets and pillows looked like previous guests had already used them, and maybe there were even a few fungal colonies. At least Azad at reception was lovely, smiling and polite, and quickly replaced the questionable bedding without a fuss. We ordered from the menu, were told 45 minutes, then waited 1 hour 20. Everyone had fallen asleep by then, so I canceled and called it a night. Golden Pearl may not shine, but Azad surely does.

We had a lovely, quiet break with our group. The room was comfortable, and the white bed linen was clean. It's a beautiful place and I'd recommend the hotel. We'll come back!

The property itself seems nice, and I later went to see it and confirmed that the listing on the booking site was genuine. The issue was the owner's handling of things, maybe due to business pressure. I left this review so they understand my booking wasn't fraudulent and that they should trust and respond to customer feedback. There was no phone number on Google or in the Google Maps photos, and no website of their own. The online reviews were all only two months old. Foreign booking sites don't prevent fraud if they don't verify properties, so how was I meant to know this listing was legitimate? The owner didn't do enough to earn trust before asking for advance payment. When I said I wouldn't use their services, he told me his "job is to do business, not to ensure trust." Big mistake. If you discuss payment to the resort's bank account rather than the owner's personal one, and the guest is due to arrive in two days, don't simply assume they'll pay on arrival. No family travels without a confirmed booking. And don't ignore customer messages on the booking site. Trust is what makes someone willing to pay in advance, and you need to take customer concerns seriously.
