SBS Grand Hotel

I paid 3920 for one night, and the room was open when I arrived, with mosquitoes flying around. Service was awful throughout: I had to ask several times for toiletries, and a starter I ordered never arrived despite repeated calls. At checkout, reception treated me badly and first refused to give me a bill. When I asked for one, they issued it with the wrong name. After I requested a correction, they told me to wait 30 minutes or said they would send it later that evening. The worst room and service I’ve experienced while travelling.

I’ve stayed here with my family and on my own over the past year. Each time I’ve had to complain at check-in about a torn pillowcase or an unclean bathroom, then call the front office to get anything addressed. People who book online don’t get complimentary items, so keep that in mind. They all seem focused on collecting money.

The hotel and its location are good, but the service was awful. During my stay nobody cleaned the room or replenished drinking water and supplies. The phone didn’t work despite repeated requests, and I had to order food from outside because I couldn’t go downstairs to reception for every small thing. The bathroom had no exhaust fan, so it became smelly and suffocating, and the pillows had stains. I left the key card so they could fix the phone and clean while I was out, but the front desk manager seemed evasive and uninterested and didn’t arrange the cleaning. It was a bad stay, and management needs to address the service.

The reception was the only area that looked neat; the rooms were just okay. There were mice peeping out of the ceiling above the breakfast buffet. I also think the price is too high for what feels like a two-star hotel, not a three-star one. After a long journey, I checked in two hours early and was charged 1000 rupees. At other places, I’ve been asked to wait while they make arrangements, so this felt like poor treatment of guests.
