The area around the mall and side streets has a lovely evening vibe, and being in a pedestrian area puts you right among the activity. Just keep in mind you can only reach the hotel on foot with your luggage. We had a great stay at Gakhil Boutique hotel. Our room was large and clean, with beautiful mountain views. The staff were super helpful, and Philip arranged both airport transfers, making sure we were met and escorted in both directions and helped with the luggage.

The location is a real plus, about 10-15 meters from Chowrasta. You can get there in two minutes, and it’s easy to walk up and down Mall road for shopping and food. Cabs can’t reach Chowrasta, though, so you’ll have to get out at a designated point and walk the rest of the way. Porters were waiting at our drop-off point to carry luggage if needed, though I saw plenty of visitors wheeling their own bags. Our Deluxe room on the 2nd floor was cozy and good value, with a decent view. The windows can't be opened because there may be monkeys around. WiFi was good and fast, and the smart TV lets you connect your devices. There’s an elevator, which is a big help for anyone travelling with senior citizens. The hotel has modern amenities alongside lovely traditional decor. The floors are wood, with marble tiles on the stairs. Staff were cheerful and helpful, and tried to meet requests when they could. There was no ceiling fan in the room, but they brought me a floor fan when I asked.

The staff are what really made Gakhil feel special. They were always welcoming, attentive, and smiling. Zaed, the manager, was quietly efficient and genuinely hospitable, making sure guests felt cared for. The elevator was a small but welcome convenience in the hills. We stayed in the Premium Attic Room, which felt like a warm wooden cocoon. It had a good heater and big windows looking out at the Himalayas. Waking up to that view each morning was like being inside a painting. The hotel’s location is superb, and it makes Darjeeling feel like an experience of its own. We also ate at Kibu Yak. The food was fresh and full of flavor, and the sushi dumplings were delightful. The brownie with ice cream was comforting without being overdone. When I come back to Darjeeling, I’ll stay at Gakhil again. It set a high bar, and gave me a rare feeling of belonging.

The breakfast was unexpectedly authentic Gujarati and Punjabi food, thanks to Chef Suraj. We hadn't expected those original flavors in Darjeeling, and everything was delicious. At Hotel Gakhil in Darjeeling, the rooms were clean and well maintained, and we had a beautiful view. The staff were humble and kind, and the hospitality was excellent. We had a wonderful stay and will definitely return. Highly recommended!

The complimentary breakfast was wonderful, with lots of options, and the restaurant food was tasty too. There’s a lift, so elderly guests should have no problem. The hotel is about 200 meters from Bhanu Bhawan and close to Mal road, with the market accessible until 10 pm and the motor stand nearby. A nice place to stay while enjoying a trip to Darjeeling.
