The manager kindly upgraded our room during our 3 day stay at Muscatel Roma Darjeeling, which made the trip extra special for my wife and me. We had a spectacular view of the surrounding mountains, and the accommodation was clean and comfortable with great service. Getting to the hotel means tackling a noticeably steep road. That helps explain the phenomenal views, but access can be difficult, so it may not suit older guests or people with mobility issues. If you can manage the incline, the views make the effort worthwhile.

It was peaceful and relaxing, and the location was convenient. My room was spotless, cozy, and neatly arranged. The staff were always ready to help with a smile and really made me feel comfortable. One of my best stays, and I’d love to come back.

We were traveling with my middle-aged parents and stayed at Muscatel Roma for 3 nights, from 22nd-25th March. The location is quiet, away from the main crowd, but still convenient: about a 7-8 minute walk to the Mall and around 5 minutes to Keventer's, known for its English breakfast. It sits up a fairly steep road from Gandhi Road, which could be hard for elderly guests or anyone with knee or mobility issues. We managed it, and liked the peaceful setting. Our first room was a standard one below reception. It mostly faced nearby buildings, so the view was limited and we didn't feel very comfortable. Ms Shristi at reception helped us move to a deluxe room the following day. It was a little smaller, but much more comfortable, with a far better view from one floor above reception. Cloudy weather kept us from seeing Kanchenjunga, though the scenery was still beautiful. The staff were a real strength. The front desk was friendly, polite, and helpful throughout. Mr Ayush was especially warm, told us about local tourist attractions, and was always available for questions. I thanked him at checkout for his service. Ms Shristi also helped promptly at check-in and arranged the room change smoothly. The rooms were comfortable and well equipped. We had Wi-Fi, a geyser, water heater, furniture for belongings, dressing table, tea and coffee setup, and drinking water. The deluxe room also had a chair and a nice interior feel. The queen-sized bed was comfortable, and extra mattress and pillows were provided when needed. Room service was available, and we could order breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Heaters cost an additional ₹400 per night. After checkout we realized we'd left an umbrella at reception. Mr Ayush promptly confirmed it had been found. They couldn't send it immediately by post because of its size, but staff kept it safely for over 45 days and stayed in touch. When we arranged a courier pickup ourselves, they cooperated fully. That patience and responsibility after checkout, especially from Mr Ayush and Ms Shristi, was commendable. For middle-class families, the hotel offers excellent value for money, with supportive staff and good views. The steep approach may be a drawback for some, but we had a pleasant and comfortable stay. I'd recommend Muscatel Roma in Darjeeling and would be happy to return. Rating: 9/10, with the steep road the only reason it wasn't higher.

I used to enjoy staying here and had many pleasant visits, so I trusted the hotel for its comfort and service. But on my last visit there was a payment mistake and I was charged extra. Staff acknowledged it and promised a refund, yet it never came. I contacted several people at the hotel multiple times, and they kept saying they'd arrange it, but nothing was done. I'm very disappointed by how they handled this, and I won't visit again.

The room was clean, spacious, and nicely decorated, with a beautiful view from the window. I had an awesome experience and loved it. ♥️
