Hotel Golden Grand

We had a great stay for three nights, with friendly staff who were happy to accommodate us. There are plenty of shops, tailors, and dry cleaners around the hotel, and the station is close by. The area was great. Breakfast could have been tastier.

The boys had been craving some home cooking after three weeks in India, so the staff put this together and delivered it to our room. We’re really enjoying our stay, and the location is great. A little tip goes a long way in getting the details looked after. The staff were amazing! ❤️

I’ve never had staff behave so badly toward a customer. The person at the reception was uneducated and didn’t know how to treat customers. It would be better to stay at The Exotica Grand Hotel, just parallel to the Golden Grand Hotel.

Dinner on our first day was meant to be a buffet, but most trays were empty and staff told us to take “whatever was left.” They only refilled dishes after they’d run out, which made for a really unpleasant meal. Breakfast the next morning was much the same: empty trays, with food prepared only on request. I saw around 25 guests waiting, even though it was set up as a buffet. That evening the hotel cancelled buffet dinner, saying occupancy was low, and asked us to order from the menu. Most items weren’t available, so we got only naan, dal, and a small portion of rice. For dessert, they offered just gulab jamun and ice cream. Tea wasn’t included, and I was told I’d have to pay extra. That felt unreasonable for a hotel of this standard. We were there for two days during a family vacation, and the experience was very disappointing. There was no proper keycard system, and we were told to leave our keycard at reception whenever we went out. It felt insecure and inconvenient. Because of the poor management, our room wasn’t cleaned, and staff cleaned someone else’s room by mistake. When I brought it up, all I got was a casual apology, not what I’d expect from a 4-star rated hotel. Service was extremely poor, and the restaurant staff seemed disorganized. The hotel appeared overstaffed but poorly managed. Reception staff were rarely available, and when they were, they weren’t very pleasant or approachable. Management should improve restaurant supervision, train staff in hospitality, and make sure helpful, polite personnel are always at reception. Definitely not recommended for family stays.
