Hotel Shambala Inn

Hotel Shambala Inn suited us for a quieter stay away from Gangtok’s busy atmosphere. It’s in a village-like area, some distance from the main town and MG Marg, so it works better if you value peace over convenience. The rooms were comfortable and good enough for a simple stay, though there were no luxurious mountain views or premium scenery to expect. The staff were decent and cooperative. The food wasn’t particularly good, so it’s better to look for dining options outside if you can. It’s a calm, budget-friendly option away from the chaos, but not a fit for anyone wanting luxury, views, or a central location.

We were a group of four, and all of us fell sick during the stay after eating food that seemed stale, poorly cooked, and unhygienically handled. It ruined our trip and felt dangerous. The food was the lowest standard, and the hotel’s remote location already made things inconvenient. When we complained about the food and our health, the manager was dismissive and arrogant, with no concern for us. His behavior was shockingly rude and unprofessional, and he didn’t seem to know how to speak to guests or take responsibility. I strongly urge visitors, especially families, to avoid this place. The Gangtok food department and concerned authorities should inspect it soon and check its food standards. Strict action is needed. If required, the hotel should be shut down until it meets proper hygiene and service standards, so other travelers don’t have their trips spoiled like ours. A place like this should not operate without accountability.

The rooms were okay, but there was no room service. The manager talked too much and had an excuse for everything. The worst part was the food. They served very small portions at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, then gave plenty of excuses. We were six in all, and everyone fell ill, ruining our trip. The recipes and food storage also seemed unsafe to consume.

The food was awesome, almost like something cooked at home. The hotel itself was very nice, and the staff treated us very well.
