OYO 3109 Kundau Residency

We stayed here just a few days ago, and the service was really poor. Sumi has left, and the hotel seems to have gone downhill since then. The rooms themselves were spacious, clean, and had all the amenities, but the TV didn’t work. I told manager Amit, and he didn’t seem bothered about getting it fixed. The location wasn’t good for us. It’s far from MG Marg, and a taxi is around 300 one way. It’s also a long way up from Chandmari taxi stand, with no shops nearby, so it feels isolated. The food was average, and staff seemed barely interested in helping customers. I wouldn’t recommend staying here. Reviews from more than four months ago don’t reflect how it is now, since I stayed only a few days ago.

Our room 203 had a great view, with the whole hill visible from the balcony. The main disappointment was a booking mistake: we’d reserved six nights, but management had entered only five. Because of that, we had to check out after noon on the sixth day. They did provide us another room at a nearby hotel, but it wasn’t as good as this one. I hope the management takes more care so this kind of misunderstanding doesn’t happen again.

We felt at home here, largely because of how welcoming Sumana and the staff were. Sumana took time to hear about our tour plans and helped with everything from booking cabs to finding reduced rates. We were looked after throughout, welcomed with extra amenities, and the other staff were professional and friendly too. Our room looked out over Gangtok, with clouds covering the mountains above. It was worth the price, and we hope to return in the next few months. The hotel is a little far from MG Marg and the surrounding areas, but staying here gave us that home away from home feeling. We had to cut our trip short because of budget issues, and leaving was sad. It felt like leaving a part of our journey behind. We got to know Sumana personally and feel we’ve made a friend for life. She and her team really do go beyond what’s needed to look after you. Thanks to Sumana and the team for making us foreigners feel so at home. Love from Eva and Kiron.

We were four families staying here on our tour from 28.5.2018 until checkout on the morning of 30.5.2018, and the manager and staff treated us badly. We’d paid the full meal charge for non-veg food as part of our package, and chicken was available, but they deliberately served only egg. They said we’d have to pay extra for another plate. At breakfast on the first day, the manager said one omelet would be served for all 14 of us, and that extra ones would cost more. She argued with us and told us to speak to our agent. We asked for the owner’s contact number, but she wouldn’t give it. The food quality was poor, and the service wasn’t good either. When we checked out, they didn’t serve breakfast.
