Naga Palace

One word: dirty. The rooms, beds, sheets, and everything else were unclean. You can find a decent, cleaner room in the same area for half the price. Don’t be fooled by the “complimentary breakfast” claim, since only tea is free. Service was mediocre, and the route to the hotel goes through a fish market with an unbearable smell. The one plus is that it’s about 300m from the Gokarna bus stand and close to Gokarna beach, though the beach is covered with heaps of garbage. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

The owner of Naga Palace was so sweet, humble, friendly, and kind-hearted. He even let us leave our bags there for a whole day after checkout while we explored. It felt safe and secure, and I loved staying there. The place was clean, the rooms cozy, and the price felt right.

We were three friends on a three-day trip to Gokarna and stayed at Naga Palace, near Gokarna beach. The rooms were spacious, but not properly clean. The washroom was very dirty, the tap ran yellow water, and the mattresses smelled and were filthy, with only a washed sheet placed over them. They gave us complimentary tea, which was nice, but the tray was very dirty, as if it hadn’t been washed in a long time. We got a free water bottle only on the first day, then had to pay for each bottle. After checkout, they let us keep our luggage, which I appreciated most. There’s also a shared washroom on the second floor. It was very dirty, with lots of webs, lizards, and other insects. They should keep it clean.

I booked through booking.com, where it said no booking amount was needed. Then the owner, Mr Ananth, called and asked for 1k in advance, saying the room couldn’t be held because of the Dusera rush. I trusted him and paid. After waiting 30 minutes in the hot sun, I reached the hotel. The room stank, as if it hadn’t been used in a long time. I immediately asked for another room or to cancel, but he said he wouldn’t refund the 1k. I went to another hotel and got a superior AC room for 1700rs, while this place wanted 1500rs for a filthy non-AC room. After a long argument, he returned 700rs and kept 300rs as a cancellation charge, though I was at no fault. There are plenty of nearby hotels and homestays, so stay away. No cleanliness, modern layout, politeness, or hygiene. I’ve never met such a worthless person in all my travels.
