Shantai by the lake

The lake-view rooms improve the atmosphere, and dinner was good, though pricey. Breakfast choices were extremely limited and the food quality was poor. If you want to disconnect, this place fits, because the WiFi is bad everywhere and there’s definitely none in the rooms. It’s a dated place, and mosquitoes get in if you leave the doors open in the evening. There’s no gym or fitness center. The pool looked green and dirty. You have to switch on the geyser 15 minutes ahead to get hot water. The bottles in the rooms were filled by hotel staff rather than being packaged water, which felt cheap and unhygienic. I’m surprised it’s rated three stars. At best, I’d give it two.

It’s a quiet spot beside the lake, with no noise pollution and uncrowded surroundings since it’s 5 km from the beach. There’s plenty of scope for beautiful photos. The rooms are a decent size and well maintained, and the staff were helpful and polite. The restaurant had lots of food options and was good. The included breakfast had a nice variety.

Great place and great service, and the breakfast is hearty. They should add a seafood thali. Since people come from Mumbai and Pune, we expect a good seafood or chicken and mutton thali. Instead of expanding the commercial Chinese and Indian menu, they should offer rustic local cuisine.

The staff made the stay feel warm and easy, always attentive and welcoming. From the balcony, every room seems to offer lovely views, and the food was fantastic with helpful suggestions for enjoying Guhagar. Shantai is a beautiful spot for a staycation. I’d happily recommend it to anyone visiting Guhagar. Kudos to the whole team! ❤️
