Madhuban Guest House

I stayed here with my family last year after booking based on the good reviews. The room size and condition shocked me. Go Abibo charged me Rs 3500 a day, but the room looked like one that should cost Rs 1000. I later found much nicer hotels in the same lane for less. The staff were good, but Madhuban felt like a cheap lodge in front of a railway station, with very high charges and, in my view, fake reviews. I posted my review on GO ABIBO, but they didn’t publish it at first. After several reminders, they posted it with some of the content deleted. GO ABIBO was entirely responsible for that.

It’s a 5-7 minute walk from Haridwar railway station, with everything available nearby. I had a very good experience: the place was nice, and the rooms were clean and very nice. Google lists this guest house as a 2-star hotel, but I think it should be 3-star.

The atmosphere and service made the stay really enjoyable, and I’d come back. The staff were helpful and very courteous, and the food was delicious and well prepared.

The hotel is handy for the railway station, and the staff were supportive and behaved well. My first room was small and cramped, but after I asked, they moved me to a better, more comfortable room the next day. Getting to Har Ki Pauri by shared taxi costs around ₹20 per person, but finding a ride back is difficult. Autos often charge ₹30–₹40 per person, or ₹150 to book one outright. I visited the Ganga ghat 2-3 times a day, so I spent a lot of time and money travelling. If you’ll be spending most of your time at Har Ki Pauri, staying closer would save both. I later found hotels near the Ganga, or within walking distance, at the same price.
