Hotel Kalyan

The hotel offers live music sessions at night, and it’s close to Sindhi Camp bus stand. But it’s far from the tourist spots, and traveling around the area at night felt quite risky. The location is down an alley. The rooms are cramped, with furniture packed into the small space, and housekeeping service is terrible. Breakfast was slow too, it took almost 40 minutes to bring a simple order of tea and paratha.

After paying about Rs.7000 for our two-day stay, my family and I were nearly left out on the road. I’d booked one room for four people online for Rs. 6738, paid in advance. At check-in, the staff rudely said we’d chosen the wrong accommodation and had to upgrade for Rs. 1000 per day or cancel, with no refund if we cancelled. After several requests, they agreed to let us stay with one extra bed for another Rs. 400 per day. I had to ask again because I couldn’t afford the extra charge or cancel the booking. In the end, they let us stay without any extra facilities. We even had to buy drinking water at Rs. 50.5 per bottle. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone and ask people to stay away.

Breakfast was included, but we only found out which limited items were covered when we got there to eat. There was no coffee, tea, or even hot water. The place is dingy and didn’t seem suitable for couples or families. The bathroom felt like it had only been built so there was a private space. The tap was broken, and the toilet smelled with no exhaust. The room, sold as superior, was so small we couldn’t fit comfortably, and my son wondered who would put a bed next to a window wall. There were no toiletries, just two small square soaps handed to us, as if they were rationing them. We asked for a decent blanket, but it never came. One of the blankets my kid had was falling apart. Even though it was the cheapest place, it felt overpriced for this quality. I don’t know where to start, and if I could give a negative rating, I would.

The staff were polite, and the exterior and common areas were clean and nicely decorated, so the first impression was good. I stayed three nights in a Super Deluxe AC room at Hotel Kalyan, in a good area. The ground-floor room was small and didn’t seem well maintained. Some basic facilities you’d expect from a 3-star hotel were missing. The bed sheet was clean, the AC worked fine, and the bathroom was clean and okay, but the room still didn’t feel worth the price. Don’t be misled by the high ratings, it’s not good value for money.
