Hotel Himmat Niwas

Getting to Himmat Niwas takes some effort: cars and rickshaws cannot enter the Fort, so you’re dropped at the gate and have to walk up a steep hill. The original hotel staircase was built for people about 7 feet tall. It’s a good workout for your leg muscles, but staying inside the Fort isn’t suitable for someone with walking disabilities. Once there, the rooftop is a lovely spot for a meal, coffee, a book, or sunset. The hotel is a 750 year old house, and most of its old architecture remains intact, so staying in India’s only inhabited fort feels like stepping back in time. Our room was beautifully furnished and comfortable, with a big bathroom by Indian standards. Everything was pristine, and the luxury came at a very reasonable price. Yogesh was a wonderful host, always around for guests and happy to share interesting stories about the past. His auntie Kukki cooked delicious food at home. We had a wonderful time with them and are thinking of coming back next year. Thank you Yogesh for the great stories and lovely stay, and Auntie Kukki for the food.

Being inside a living fort made this a once-in-a-lifetime stay, and choosing this hotel was one of my best decisions. I booked an AC Deluxe Single Room for three days. It was spotless, well maintained, and very reasonably priced. The owner was humble and courteous, too. There was no rooftop café, but that hardly mattered. I’d recommend it to anyone visiting Jaisalmer who wants the experience of staying in a living fort.

Yogesh was courteous and professional, and dealt with even the small requests promptly. The hospitality felt personal, and the food was excellent, fresh and full of flavor. My room was clean, comfortable, beautifully maintained, and cost effective. I had a wonderful stay and would gladly come back and recommend it. The warm service and good food made the visit memorable.

We only stayed at Himmat Niwas for a short time with friends, but it was a really pleasant visit. The location is great, close to the main attractions, and breakfast was delicious, especially the coffee. Yogesh was welcoming and kind. He speaks English, which is an added value in a place like Jaisalmer. Highly recommend.
