Gilco Green Motels

I visited twice in the same month, and the room prices had gone up both times. The receptionist was especially rude. When I showed the bill and questioned the cost, I was told to pay if I wanted the room or get out.

The room was decent, but the broken bathroom tap meant I had to use a different bathroom to bathe, and the towels weren't very clean. Breakfast wasn't available before 8:30. One morning the power went out for nearly five minutes while I was shaving, leaving me in complete darkness, and the generator backup wasn't working properly.

I ended up staying five days with my family because of personal circumstances, though I wanted to switch hotels after the first night. Management felt very poor, as if a few friends were just running the place, and guests weren't given any essential kit. When I raised problems on day one, the woman at the desk that morning pointed to a man sitting in front of her and said he was the manager. He just kept saying, “Okay, okay,” and that was all. On my last day I found out he wasn't the manager after all. The morning receptionist was arrogant and unhelpful, and seemed not to care about customers. That's my experience, though others may feel differently. I'd choose somewhere else to avoid regretting it later.

The staff were helpful, and the rooms were spacious. I especially liked that they have central heating for winter. Food and service were good too.
