The Boulevard Hotel

I paid ₹6237 for three nights after reading so much about this heritage hotel, but it wasn’t worth it. The location is excellent, and that’s about it. The hotel has clearly seen better days. I left after one night, even though I’d paid for three. I’d selected breakfast, but when I asked, they told me to choose from the room menu and had it served there. I won’t return if things stay this way. I hope the owner improves the facilities and hires a good GM to run the hotel efficiently, so this superb location doesn’t go to waste.

I’m stuck here on an official trip, but I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. When I raise problems, the staff listen and then smoothly ignore them. I’ve been asking them to change my room from tomorrow, and they seem to have switched off their ears. The staff arrangements are the worst. A retro theme doesn’t excuse defective equipment or untidy attire. Your money will go to waste.

The reception area looks decent, with good visibility from there, but the rooms told a very different story. The infrastructure felt outdated and neglected, with peeling paint and creaky furniture, and the rooms didn’t match the impression from reception. I was uncomfortable during my stay. The restaurant was another letdown. The food quality was far below standard and didn’t justify the menu prices. Very disappointing, and I wouldn’t recommend eating there or staying here if you want comfort.

What keeps bringing me back to The Boulevard is its excellent location, the ever-smiling Reception Desk and Man at the Gate, and the D'Costas running the hotel in their heritage building. I still miss the Parsi Food listed on the Menu, which is never available. When I reached Tatanagar past 11.00 at night on 26th April, Sameer at Reception arranged a hot dinner, neatly foiled, in my room and kept me informed over the phone while I was on a running train. Thank you, Sameer. The rooms have no TV, though free Yi Fi is provided. Window ACs have a fixed configuration you can’t change, and filtered RO drinking water is available. Room Service can bring Food/BF, but the cost is a bit high and the taste a bit low.
