Taj Bengal

Dinner and breakfast were included in our package and both were served at Cal27, where we had a fantastic experience. There were 5 pax staying in rooms, and we all loved it. The pool area is lush and relaxing, and the gym is well-equipped. Service is a real strength here. Staff, from the doorman to housekeeping, are polite, attentive, and proactive, often remembering your preferences and going the extra mile. The front desk can feel slow during busy check-in times, though. The rooms are well-maintained but not very spacious, with classic wood furniture, plush beds, and large windows looking out to the garden or city. Bathrooms are clean, though some wings feel dated. Some rooms and corridors show their age and need renovation. Free Wi-Fi can be inconsistent in the far corners of the property. Taj Bengal is on the quiet, tree-lined Belvedere Road in Alipore, a short drive from the city centre and airport. It feels calm despite Kolkata's bustle. The lobby is grand but inviting, with marble floors, modern art, and subtle Bengali details. Taj Bengal remains one of Kolkata's finest luxury hotels for travellers who value genuine hospitality and a peaceful setting. Those after modern ultra-luxury might prefer newer properties, but the old-world charm is hard to beat. Recommended for business travellers, families, and anyone wanting a quintessential Taj experience.

We appreciated the excellent food at the lounge and want to thank all the chefs for keeping up the quality. The staff on the 5th floor were attentive and supportive during our stay. Chef Chandan at Cal27 went the extra mile to make a delicious chicken curry for us on request, and Chef Kavitha shared helpful advice about muesli. Service at Cal 27 was usually courteous and responsive, but it wasn't consistent throughout. A few staff members seemed to knowingly ignore requests, and the reception team also gave inconsistent responses when we called. We chose Taj for its reputation for hospitality and feel that standard should be maintained. Many team members helped make the stay pleasant, and we hope the small service gaps can be addressed.

We had a wonderful lunch buffet, and Ms Ishika and Mr Tom were great hosts with helpful suggestions. The pizza they recommended was delicious. Since it was my parents anniversary, they also gave us a complimentary customised designed cake. 10 out of 10, must try.

The location is fantastic, just about a km from the Victoria memorial, and the rooms were spacious, airy, and full of natural light. Food at Sonargaon was phenomenal, and the staff were incredibly kind and helpful. Ganesh from housekeeping, celestina, ratan at sonargaon, naim at breakfast, and others whose names I can't remember made us comfortable enough to want to return. Special thanks to the man who stood outside the elevator and greeted everyone who got in our or, with a smile, every single time. We had a wonderful stay at the Taj. There was an initial hiccup about the keys, but the hotel is definitely worth visiting again. The hospitality of Taj is unmatched.
