The setting by Ashtamudi Lake is wonderfully peaceful, and the outdoor seating makes a lovely spot for sunset dinners. We enjoyed the Kerala food, especially the fresh seafood with its bold spices, and the restaurant worked well for a family meal or a romantic evening. Service was warm and attentive, with quick help and personal touches. The houseboat cruises at 4.30 PM were relaxing, and the rooms were luxurious. There’s also an outdoor pool overlooking the lake, and the staff and security team were professional, especially Lenin Santhosh. We’d happily return and would recommend it to people exploring South Kerala. One concern: the bathroom floor gets very slippery when wet, and water from the shower runs into the toilet area. We’re worried someone could fall and get hurt. Bath mats or rough grips on the floor would help.

Anju gave us a birthday cake after noticing in our passports that our birthdays were only two days apart. It was such a thoughtful surprise, and she really went out of her way to make the stay special. The service from everyone we met was outstanding, warm, and professional, even though we didn't get all their names. We spent one night at the Leela and had a lovely time. Our room was spacious and beautifully decorated, and the buffet had an impressive range of good food. We also made use of the gym and pool, and enjoyed the activities, including a relaxing boat ride and table tennis.

The views across Lake Ashtamudi are breathtaking, and every meal we had, from breakfast through dinner, was delicious. We also enjoyed the activities included with our stay. The staff were an incredible group and went out of their way to make every part of my visit feel special. This property completely won me over, and I can't recommend it enough.

Breakfast was a frustrating start to the morning. We arrived around 9:50 AM to find things disorganized, and it was difficult to get anyone's attention. We ordered appams at the live counter, waited more than 30 minutes, and got no update even after following up twice. We eventually left without finishing. The hospitality we'd had at small cafes in Varkala was much better. We had booked Room 517 at The Leela Ashtamudi from 31 Dec to 1 Jan for our first New Year as a married couple. We paid close to ₹31,000 expecting a true 5-star stay, but left disappointed. The view was beautiful and the welcome treats were a nice touch, though the room itself didn't feel 5-star: there were stains on the cushions, the bathroom window latch was broken, the shower holes were clogged, and the TV was very outdated. For the price, it felt like poor value and a missed chance to make a special occasion memorable. I wouldn't recommend this experience at that price point.

The lake views from the rooms are really nice, and the building has the feel of a heritage palace. It's a relaxing, serene location, and I can't complain about the food or service. There's not much around apart from the lake, so a longer stay could get boring unless you're there for the spa and relaxation.
