Coconut Creek Homestay

We had a wonderful time at Coconut creek. Our room was roomy and well equipped, and the house itself was beautiful, nicely decorated, and very clean, as was the lovely garden. The homestay staff were kind and looked after us well. They also helped us arrange visits to the backwaters, Kumarakom, and the surrounding area. The food was delicious. Thanks so much for all your care.

We stayed in 2014 and always regretted not writing this sooner. The family made us feel at home, and the homemade Indian food was some of the best we had on our trip. The backwaters are nearby, and we loved relaxing on the seat swings beside the calm river and taking in the incredible surroundings. Highly recommend!

The lunch and dinner on our houseboat were delicious, but the overnight trip itself was a letdown. I booked a Deluxe AC 2 bedroom houseboat through Coconut Creek, and the photos online didn’t match the boat we got. Nobody gave us an itinerary either. We left at 12:15pm, went out onto the big lake, and anchored in the middle from 2-4pm. By 5:30pm we were back at the dock for the night. The next morning we didn’t leave until 8am. We drove out to the big lake, turned around right away, went through one small canal for about 10 minutes, and were docked and finished by 9am. In total, we only spent 10 minutes on a small canal and 3 hours and 15 minutes cruising the lake. I didn’t feel the overnight was worth paying for. I’d choose a daytime cruise with another company instead. Breakfast was a Western meal, which disappointed me. I’m in India and wanted Indian food, not something I can easily get back in the US.

The cook made very nice fresh food, and the room was comfortable with good AC and instant hot water in the shower. The rooms were a little smaller than some other homestays we’ve used, but still an adequate size. Staff were amazing and professional. There was even a button in the room to call them, and they came straight over when needed. The young man at reception was especially helpful and suggested a rowing boat trip through the canals. We really enjoyed it. It cost 400Rs per hour and was a personal highlight for me.
