Kumbhalgarh Forest Retreat

The property looks just like the photos, and the pool was great. Even in peak summer it felt a few degrees cooler under the surrounding trees. The staff were mostly helpful, and lots of families were there enjoying the long weekend. It’s a scenic place and I’d happily recommend it. Just keep in mind that the market is far away, so getting medicine or food from outside can be difficult.

Being near Kumbhalgarh Fort makes this a handy place to stay while exploring the area. The retreat itself feels peaceful, with greenery all around, fresh mountain air, and birdsong in the morning. The Aravalli hills look especially beautiful at sunrise and sunset. Our room was spacious and clean, with a rustic feel, and the property was well maintained. The staff were welcoming and attentive. We enjoyed the food and the range of local and Indian dishes, though a few more menu choices would have been nice. It’s a relaxing escape from city life and a memorable stay for anyone who enjoys nature. I’d recommend it, with a little room to expand the dining options.

The setting and the way the property is built are great. The rest of my stay left a lot to be desired. The room was in terrible shape, and the wooden sofa in it was bad enough that I attached two photos. Breakfast was pathetic in its quality, taste, and variety. At check-in, I stood waiting for five minutes while the only person at the so-called reception negotiated with a potential guest about a room for three, breakfast included, for Rs 3500. No one even asked me to sit or wait. After housekeeping, someone took our room key away, and when we got back from our outing, the receptionist struggled to find it. I’m being generous with two stars. I’m surprised the property had a decent rating that persuaded me to book, so be careful about how you interpret hotel reviews. It seemed there was no manager and that the owner handled everything directly.

I booked through MakeMyTrip, but we couldn’t stay because of the hygiene and safety issues. We were travelling with our six-month-old baby. Garbage was scattered around the premises, used tea cups had been left outside rooms, and our room wasn’t clean enough. When I opened the curtains, a honeybee fell onto my shirt from inside the room. I raised the concerns and was shown other rooms, but they were also unhygienic and unsuitable for a family with an infant. I was extremely disappointed by the condition of the property on arrival. Families with babies or young children should carefully assess it before booking.
