The Lachung Inn

The food options are limited, but what they serve is good. Reception can help you get a heater, and the service is excellent. Rooms are clean and spacious, and many have a good view. Madras cafe, the army canteen, is very close, about a 5 minute walk. For an offbeat place, this is excellent.

The location is excellent, with amazing views of snow-covered peaks and the river. Rooms are comfortable and spacious, and breakfast is filling, though the choices are very limited. The bad part was the staff. They were rude, showed no courtesy, and weren’t cooperative. They acted like we were doing them a favour by visiting Lachung. I understand servings are limited, but that should be explained politely. The food was good, but the service and arrogant staff were a big thumbs down. The owner’s replies to most comments here make it seem like he’s either indifferent or unwilling to change.

The kitchen was well maintained, and we could get hot drinking water whenever we needed it. The rooms and bathroom were very clean, and the heater we paid extra for worked well. The kitchen and service person were very helpful, and the helpers were kind and did their best.

We stayed two nights during our Zero point visit, and this was the worst stay of our Sikkim trip. I’m not sure why it has such high ratings, given family rooms cost around 2.8-3k. The good bits were tasty breakfast, buffet dinner, and available Wi-Fi. That was about it. There was no working TV or settop box. Government rules require a 2 nights stay in Lachung, and the points to visit are only Yumthang valley, zero point, and Mt Katao, which take just half a day. So we had to spend a long time lying or sitting on the bed under blankets and looking after the kids, since the cold and bad weather meant we couldn’t go outside. It made the holiday feel like a burden instead of fun. There were few staff and zero service. We had to get everything ourselves. They charged extra for room heaters that run on electricity, even though there was no electricity all night. We didn’t actually use the heaters, but still had to pay, and the payment went to staff members’ personal GPay numbers instead of the hotel’s GPay number. Lunch wasn’t available, even when we requested it early. We had to run around to find food for the kids, since the hotel only prepared evening tea and dinner. The nearby Army canteen/cafe is an option for quick bites, but it’s closed on Sunday.
