The location is what you’re paying for here. This is a large, quiet estate right in the heart of Manali, with its own little devdar forest, and you barely notice the town’s noise until you leave the property. It’s a Govt. Undertaking site with 12 cottages developed by the State Tourism department undertaking in 1974, and there are decent stays available. The cottages are split into two accommodations depending on the stay allocation; the most economical ones have two segments and start at about ₹2500 a night. The upkeep is poor. The cottages aren’t cleaned or maintained properly, the furniture is rotting, and spider webs sit in corners that look untouched. There’s no restaurant, so food orders can take about an hour, making it easier to go out and eat. A kitchen is available, but hotel staff say guests have to clean the utensils themselves, which feels rude and abrupt when you’d expect proper room service. The intercom has no labels showing which office to call while you’re staying there.

The setting is lovely, with a safe location surrounded by lush forest. The cottages are huge and have a bathroom, dining and drawing areas, and a somewhat equipped kitchen. But the whole facility and its amenities are very old and badly maintained, and the people responsible don’t seem to care about fixing things. Beds are shabby, the washroom smells and clogs, and the heater works only sometimes. WiFi is there, but unusable. The kitchen is missing most essentials, including a water heater. Its refrigerator looks like it’s from the 1980s and doesn’t work. Service is awful: one older man welcomes guests, and he’s very arrogant. There’s no in-house kitchen either, so he brings food from elsewhere after you order, usually 1-2 hours later. It’s also very expensive, around Rs. 145 for one small butter toast. I’ll keep this negative review up until HPTDC sorts out the problems.

The quiet and basic setup took me back to childhood. There’s very little in the way of amenities and no luxury, but the stay helped me feel refreshed after traveling from NCR to Manali.

The location is awesome, and the lush green lawn is a big draw. It’s a lovely place to stay on vacation, and I really came to love it. The rooms are nice, with basic things like hot water, though the washrooms could use renovation. Having a small kitchen with basic utensils was quite useful.

It feels peaceful and private here, since the property sits a little away from the busy part of the area. The view is great, and the staff are friendly. I really liked having an attached kitchen, and it’s a nice place to come with family.
