We went on a wonderful canoe trip that Sunil arranged. Several boats of six people paddle slowly through narrow canals, which makes for a sociable, fun, and beautiful day. I preferred it to an expensive houseboat that can’t enter the smaller canals. I wish we’d stayed longer to walk around and spend time there. Sunil is a great host, and we had all sorts of adventures with him. He enjoys chatting over a beer about politics, culture, and life. He’s an ex Bombay businessman living simply with a few cats and the occasional rescued baby eagle, on land bordered by rice fields on one side and the backwaters on the other. The homestay is in a tranquil family area, away from the busy pollution of Allepey. Our rooms were simple, clean, and comfortable. This stay was definitely a highlight of our trip, and I can’t recommend staying with Sunil enough.
