Kafal House

I spent four nights and five days here and loved the peaceful feel of the place. The view is out of this world, almost like being between earth and sky, and the Himalayan birds add to the quiet, serene setting. It’s a wonderful place to wind down, especially for people who love nature and birdlife. Raju ji, hemu ji and bhuvan ji made us feel at home with their warm hospitality. The in-house food was fantastic, served hot in the cold weather. Please come and respect the surroundings, the birds and the people who live here. Kafal House will always be one of my favorite stays. Thank you for having us.

The staff were polite and very helpful. We ordered Lemon Chicken and liked it. The regular rooms were clean and nice, though a bit small for me. We stayed in Cheer Nest Cottage, which is spacious and gets good daylight, but half of its light fixtures didn’t work at night, leaving it too dim. Kafal House is part of a cluster of hotels and resorts sharing one road and parking area, so you have to walk a bit from the shared parking. We had trouble finding it because there was no visible road sign. Some signs and directions to the property would help.

This was my second stay at Kafal House Pangot, and I’m already thinking about a third. The place has that rare mix of peace and beauty that makes you want to come back. Raju Joshi, the owner, is genuinely kind, and the staff seem to grant every little wish like fairy godparents. The food is fresh, homemade and made just how you like it. Every meal feels like a warm hug, and the sweetness of this place stays with you long after you’ve packed up.

Mornings brought visits from barbets, jays and green backed tits, and I saw a Maroon Oriole for the first time. I’d forgotten my binoculars and camera. This felt like a bird watcher’s paradise, though the place belongs to the birds, insects and herbs, and I felt like an intruder in their world. We stayed in the resort’s only cottage. There were lots of books about local birds, and the service was quite customized while still being unobtrusive.
