The Naini Retreat, Nainital

I've never been to a more beautiful hotel. It feels like living in a museum, with every detail considered, from the vintage furniture and gardening right down to the coasters. Service was great, and both the spa and breakfast were amazing. The hotel sits on a quiet hill with precious silence and an amazing view over the city. Mall Road is a 10-minute walk away, and they provide free rides to and from the center if you ask.

The room was about 10×10 feet, cramped and cage-like, and calling it a superior room didn't make it suitable for a luxury hotel at this price. We paid twenty odd per day for the room, somewhere around a quarter to a lakh. The mini bed wasn't big enough for sleeping with a child, and there was no space for an extra bed. The room's condition and overall location didn't justify the cost. Staff were okay and polite, but that couldn't make up for the poor room quality or value. This room category is overpriced at the given tariff, and I wouldn't recommend it.

We held a corporate event at The Naini Retreat this January. The traditional welcome was lovely, and the staff were professional and supportive. They organized our sessions smoothly, with enough attention to detail that we could focus on the agenda. The property has a range of cozy, well-kept room categories, with central heating or good space heaters. Hot water was especially welcome on chilly mornings. For group stays, I'd discuss room layouts with the booking team in advance. The food was consistently delicious, and breakfast outside with the morning sun and valley views was a highlight. The architecture is beautiful, with sweeping views of Naini Lake and the surrounding hills. There's a short downhill walking route to Naini Lake, about 5-7 minutes. A shuttle is available for the uphill return, and taxis can be arranged for a charge. The final approach by road is steep. If you're not experienced with mountain driving, I strongly suggest parking in Nainital's main parking lots and taking the shuttle or a local taxi. It combines heritage charm with professional service, and I highly recommend it for corporate groups and discerning travelers.

Built in 1927, this heritage hotel is a quiet, cozy retreat from the busy city. We stayed with family and would highly recommend it. The rooms are good and centrally heated, the staff are courteous, and the food is great. They also provide a shuttle to and from the mall.
