We ended up leaving after one night, even though we’d booked two at Zostel Jim Corbett. The first thing that struck us was the state of the room: it smelled of urine and sewage, the paint was peeling, and squashed bugs were visible on the walls. A fan was missing from its mount with wires hanging down, and several switches were coming out of their sockets. The AC was set to 22°C but barely cooled the room or reduced the humidity. We waited more than five minutes for hot water in the shower. The shared areas were just as neglected, with dusty, stained couches, some missing their covers, and a general look as if they hadn’t been cleaned or maintained for weeks. The coffee tasted awful, so we left early to find a decent breakfast elsewhere. When we asked about arranging a jeep safari, staff only gave us a contact number and didn’t offer to help set it up, leaving us to sort it out ourselves. I rarely give one-star reviews, but this stay deserved one. The photos for Zostel are incredibly misleading. If we’d arrived before 10 p.m., we probably wouldn’t have stayed at all. It spoiled our Zostel experience and cut our Jim Corbett visit short. We were relieved to leave and won’t return.
