Anantya In The Village

The Nava Tirupati temples were the reason our group came, and Anantya in the Village made a very peaceful base for the six days. It sits on a quiet street in Alvar Tirunagari, about a five-minute walk from the entrance to the Adinatha temple. The rooms were beautiful and clean, with comfortable beds, antique touches, crafted details and sayings from Alvar saints on the walls. Michael cooked delicious meals with different flavours each day. Sivaraj, the manager, was attentive, funny, spoke excellent English, and arranged outings to a pottery, an archeology site and the red desert. We couldn't have asked for more.

The people here were so patient, polite and thoughtful, and the food felt like an art form. Anantya in the village was a lovely place to come back to after visiting the temple, and it really did feel like home. The rooms and decor have had so much care put into them. Our family of six rented two rooms, and the setting was peaceful and comfortable. There are antiques, pictures and board games around, and we could hear parrots and cuckoos chirping through the day. The rooms were clean. The Satvik food was tasty and reasonably priced, and they accommodated requests at short notice. When I mentioned a sore throat, they made me sukku/milagu/panankalkandu tea. Sivaraj was welcoming and hosted us well, including a guided temple tour. The location behind Alwar Thirunagari temple worked well for our nava thirupathi/kailasam/thiruchendur trip. It is 45 minutes from Tuticorin airport and 50 minutes from Tirunelveli city, with tourist and religious sites nearby. One issue for families with senior citizens: there are four rooms downstairs and four upstairs, and the upper rooms require climbing a flight of chairs. The website should make this clear during booking and offer alternatives, perhaps asking whether the party includes senior citizens. For a fancy stay in a quiet temple town, with the look of a heritage conversion and modern amenities, this is a good fit. Date of stay: December 2025

We were a group of 11 at Anantya in the village for six days, and everyone made us feel at home. Michael and the kitchen team turned out delicious meals, while Arun, Anandu and Ramesh looked after us and made sure we had what we needed. The manager, Shivaraj, taught us about local culture and cuisine and arranged some interesting outings. He handled the details before and during our stay, and was a great communicator and guide. We came mainly to visit the Navatirupathi temples, and the location couldn't have been better. The Adi Nathar temple was just a stone's throw away, so we could walk there each morning before breakfast.
