The lawn facing the Lidder River is a lovely place to sit and take in the scenery. Hotel White House also has tents for anyone wanting to be closer to nature and enjoy the riverside. We stayed in a spacious private cottage with a ground and first floor, which gave our family of five plenty of room, privacy, and views of the river, mountains, and surrounding landscape. Across the river there’s a charming village, with snow-capped mountains all around. The location right beside the river feels peaceful, with its soothing sound through the day and night, yet the main Pahalgam market is within walking distance. The homemade food was fresh, delicious, and thoughtfully prepared, with a real home-away-from-home feel. Staff were friendly, helpful, and ready to assist. In the evenings, the barbecue and bonfire made things warm and memorable for families and groups. For a quiet riverside visit with mountain views, family cottages, tents, the open lawn, and good homemade food, I’d recommend Hotel White House.

Dinner and breakfast choices were very limited, and breakfast came quite late, which was inconvenient for guests with early plans. The staff also seemed unresponsive and poorly organized, so the service was disappointing. The location of Hotel White House in Pahalgam is excellent, right by the beautiful Lidder River, with lovely views and a peaceful atmosphere. Even so, the poor management and food service make it difficult to recommend.

The rooms are average, but the location makes up for that. It’s a beautiful spot right beside the river, with a breathtaking view. The kitchen was closed during our visit, so we couldn’t try the food.

We spent one night at the White House Hotel in Pahalgam. Waseem, our caretaker, looked after us so well and was wonderfully hospitable. His cooking in particular reminded us of home.

The only real draw is the riverside view. The rooms aren’t great, and the wooden floor feels like it could break easily. Some bathrooms don’t have a shower, and the washbasin is tiny. After 8 pm there were so many mosquitoes that we couldn’t sleep properly, so keep the windows shut. The river runs loudly all the time, and dinner isn’t served until 9:30 pm. They told us the government won’t let them make changes, and that getting renovation permission could take five years. I wouldn’t recommend this stay to anyone except bachelors. I’d choose a hotel rated 4.0 stars or above instead.
