Hotel Surguru

We felt unwelcome throughout our meal. The manager put a “reserved” sign on our table while we were eating, and when we asked another waiter to take it away, the manager came back and put it there again. If the table was reserved, they should have marked it before we sat down. Earlier, because the AC was extremely cold and most seats were taken, we chose a corner where it was less chilly. The manager and staff pointed at us while talking, then the manager said service would be slow because we were sitting on that side. That made no sense. They treated local diners politely but were indifferent to us as tourists. Hospitality should make people feel welcome, and we didn’t. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to tourists.

We had parotta with korma, mushroom gravy, and one large podi idli, and everything was delicious. The food was awesome and service was good. The naan was a little pricey, but otherwise the meal was reasonably priced.

We finished dinner with ginger tea, which was refreshing and just right. The meal at Surguru Restaurant in Pondicherry was memorable, and I’d gladly go back. We tried a North Indian thali, noodles, and dosa. The thali was satisfying and well balanced, the dosa crisp and authentic, and the noodles were nicely prepared too. It’s a popular pure vegetarian restaurant with both South Indian and Indian dishes, so there’s a good mix to choose from. The seating was clean, the setting vibrant but comfortable, and table service was pleasant. It worked well for families and tourists exploring Pondicherry. Staff were courteous, attentive, and quick, which made the experience even better. Surguru is a great choice for vegetarian food, a comfortable atmosphere, and good service.

The food was good, though there were only a few people available to serve customers.
