Hotel Golden Palace Puri

The sea view is good, the location is very convenient, and staff are helpful. But the rooms facing the sea were dirty, and the hotel didn't feel worth the price. Bedsheets were very old and overused, with stains, and the mattress had heavy stains too. Furniture and bathroom fittings hadn't been maintained. We had to ask for a bathroom mat, and after checking in we even had to request a bed change because it was so dirty. The money they charge could go toward maintaining the place, but clearly that isn't happening.

This is an old property right next to Blue Flag Beach, the cleanest and best beach in Puri. The location and views are very good, and the rooms are furnished well with superb beach views, but they're severely run down and maintenance is extremely poor. With so much wood panelling, the rooms are infested with cockroaches. Once the lights go off, small and medium cockroaches are all over the rooms and washrooms. It's unhygienic, and I went down because of an allergy. The hotel needs major reconditioning. It stays fully booked all year because of weddings and tourism, so rooms are dirty and the nooks and corners never get cleaned. I spent almost one week there and found the cockroach problem disgusting. Also, a few fake websites operating from Haryana may scam you if you don't go to the correct site.

The sea-facing rooms look out over the ocean and Blue Flag Beach, which is only a few metres away and is one of the cleanest beaches in Puri. The location also makes it easy to get to Jaganath temple, and Auto-rickshaws are readily available. The complimentary breakfast is worth having: it has a lot of variety, more than I've seen in buffet breakfasts elsewhere, and you can have a sumptuous meal. Food quality is very good, and the Alacarte lunch and dinner prices are much more reasonable than similar restaurants in Puri. Room service and room maintenance need more attention from the Hotel authorities.

Hotel Golden Palace puri is pricey for Puri, though its location right by the sea is nice and away from the bustle of swargadwar. It offers sea-view and swimming-pool-view rooms, with the sea-view rooms costing more. The restaurant food is tasty and good quality, and breakfast is complimentary with large oprions. That's where the good points end. The linens were stained and the washroom poorly maintained. The intercom stopped working after a while, and nobody cared when I complained. We asked for plates and spoons to eat the mahaprasad received from mandir, but it took three reminders and half an hour to get them. Room service was the worst. The AC wasn't working, and nobody cared to fix it. Not recommended at all.
