Hotel Swagatam Inn

Overall, it was good, but the rooms need maintenance.

After a tiring 2.5 hour journey in scorching heat, we reached at 1:30 pm with my 3 year old daughter and were told our booking had been cancelled. We’d booked Hotel Swagatam inn through MMT in October, 1.5 months before our Diwali vacation, and got a good discount. They said they’d emailed about the cancellation, but we searched and never found anything. First they gave a lame explanation that renovation meant the rooms weren’t available. We explained we only needed a room until 8 pm, since our train was that evening. When we offered to pay the current price, they said they could give us a room. We challenged how that was possible if renovation had made rooms unavailable, and then they backed off and said there were no rooms after all. Because it was peak season, other hotels charged us a bomb for a last minute booking, and finding one was tedious. MMT refunded our money and gave us another 25%, but that didn’t make up for all the time and energy we lost. That same evening, we called them from another number to check the renovation story. Mr. Vimal Vekhadia said rooms were very much available and could be booked online or offline. This made it feel like we’d been cheated by an inhospitable hotel that didn’t care we had a child with us. Book at your own risk, and you could end up spoiling your day and your trip.

The rooms have nice decor, but nearly all the mattresses have plastic covers, which makes them a bit uncomfortable. Breakfast is brought to the room, and the chai is good. Customer service was not bad. They could only offer us a discount if we booked through the make my trip app, so we did that while we were at the hotel, since they wouldn’t give us a rate otherwise.

I’ve visited four times, and this stay was better than the earlier ones. The room was clean and well maintained, and the staff were helpful and well behaved. The food was a little expensive, but the Wi-Fi connection and speed were good. It was a comfortable, good stay.
