Backwoods Retreat Shimla

The food here was excellent, simple home-style meals that really hit the spot. The staff fit the place perfectly, humble and down to earth, and always just a call away when needed. There are no TVs in the rooms, but with scenery like this, I'd rather take it all in. The setting feels miles away from everyday noise. Apart from birds and insects, you hear a stream flowing right in front of the property. It's a wonderful place to take in nature. After searching online for ages, I found this place and was amazed to see it was even more breathtaking in person than I'd expected. The final 2.8 km of road is unmetalled, but manageable by car. You park about 400 meters away, which felt completely safe, then their dedicated Camper handles pick-up and drop-off. That made getting there hassle-free. Someone once said, “A beautiful place doesn’t just please the eyes, it quiets the mind, heals the heart, and reminds you how good it feels to just be.” This place lives up to that. Thanks for the exceptional service and a memorable stay!

Service was very good, and the food tasted good with generous portions. The only issue is getting there. The last 2 km need a better road or at least proper signboards, especially since the route feels risky in winter or rainy weather.

I love Backwood Retreat, Shimla. It's one of my favourite places in Himachal, tucked away from the city's bustle among lush forests. The waterfall, birdwatching and clear night skies for stargazing make it a peaceful break, and the quiet surroundings are lovely for meditation. A real haven for nature lovers.
