We loved our week-plus at Yalakhom. The atmosphere was lovely, and you can see the care and respect the people looking after the place bring to everything. The rooms are beautiful and very clean, and the food is amazing. You can head out on hikes and rent everything you need here too. It feels awake and balanced compared with the other places around. I definitely recommend it.

The hosts were genuinely sweet, respectful and welcoming, and the food was great quality, though a little expensive. At this price, I thought the room was superb, especially with its direct view of the snow-covered mountains. It was really cold in mid-May, below zero, in fact. There are no heaters, so bring warm clothes. This place suits anyone looking for peace and stunning views. I wouldn’t recommend it during monsoon, though, because of the location. It’s on Kalgha Peak, and the path up from Parvati Dam is steep, poorly built and quite a trek, so it’s tough if you have bad knees. From the dam, a taxi usually costs around ₹500-₹800 because the route is risky, while porters charge around ₹250-₹300. With luggage, I’d strongly suggest hiring one or taking a taxi. A taxi can also take you to Kalgha Peak, from where it’s only an easy three-to-four-minute walk to the stay. Pulga and Tulga are nearby, but getting there is exhausting. If you want to explore them often, rent a vehicle or take taxis. Travelling light and being good at trekking makes it easier. Fairy Forest is about an hour’s walk from Kalgha Peak. Stay here for the peace; if exploring Pulga and Tulga is your main plan, I’d choose somewhere there instead.

This place has my heart. Tucked in peaceful Kalga village, it has great rooms that are comfy and come with a geyser, plus a cloth washing service. Pemba bbaiji made some of the best mountain food: ginger lemon honey, pancakes, paratha and so much more. The hospitality was top-notch, and they also took us on an amazing kheerganga trek.

A lovely place to relax, and I’d definitely come back. The stay was pleasant, the food was delicious and comforting, and the host and staff were incredibly friendly.

It’s a cute little stay with lovely views from just about every side, and the food is really good. The rooms are basic, but that’s enough to relax in a remote place. There’s a camp fire and an apple garden behind the property. We loved the peace and the views, and it felt well worth the short trek. Don’t trust Google Maps to track your way here. You have to walk uphill at least 800 metres to 1 km over lots of ups and downs, though this place is easier to reach than others nearby. Get a porter if you have luggage beyond a backpack. Check the washroom before taking a room: ours had a window with a view, and it was too cold to bathe with the window open.
