Chandra Niwas- home-stay

Moti cooks lovely home-style food and is also a helpful person around the house. Dr. Samvit is warm and friendly, with plenty of stories from his past to share. The rural tours to nearby villages are a nice way to experience local life, and the food Moti cooks is delicious. He’s shy but always smiling. Dr Samvit is an interesting, intelligent host and a responsible presence in hospitality. The accommodation is spacious, with very good rooms, and his three lovely dogs are a treat for dog lovers. The meals here are tasty and inexpensive, and the three huge dogs are incredibly affectionate. Samvit and his family made us feel like we already belonged. Chandra Niwas is quiet and lovely, a great place to get an authentic experience of India. Samvit has a huge heart and is a thoughtful, philosophical person. We had really interesting conversations, and he was happy to help whenever we had questions. It felt like a magical place.

The homestay sits about 6km from Udaipur’s centre, with beautiful countryside around it. A shared tuk-tuk makes it easy to head into town when you want to see the sights, while the quieter setting gives you a more local feel. We also visited the NGO school Sam runs, met the lovely kids, and even joined a lesson. That was a really enriching part of our trip. We spent four nights with Samvit and loved the stay. Our room was spacious, nicely decorated and peaceful, and his helper made delicious, healthy, filling meals. Samvit was such good company that we were chatting like old friends within minutes, and we had lots of interesting conversations. He really tries to make your time in Udaipur feel local, unique, and uplifting.
