Chunda Palace

The breakfast had a fantastic range of choices, and the service throughout our three nights was outstanding. Chuni Lal deserves a special mention for the genuine care he puts into looking after guests. Chunda Palace was clean and beautifully maintained, and we loved our time there. We’d happily return to spend longer at the palace and in Udaipur. Thank you!

The rooftop is the best part of the property, with a pool, restaurant, and good views from up there. The location is also good, and the complimentary breakfast buffet had plenty of fruit and different dishes. Reception and restaurant staff were polite. The rooms are spacious and nicely decorated, but the mattresses and beds feel about 20 years old, as do the LCD TVs. The bathroom was the biggest letdown: red stains around the wash closet, a chipped bathtub, and a leaking shower pipe. For the amenities provided, I found it overpriced, and definitely not a five-star hotel.

Watching boats cross the lake while lingering over ghevar made the afternoon feel wonderfully unhurried. Earlier, I’d enjoyed Chunda Palace’s dal baati churma, with smoky lentils, fluffy baatis, and sweet crumbles, along with a frothy saffron lassi. The cushioned charpoy beneath the neem tree, the lake breeze, and the view made it feel like a private feast. In the courtyard, jasmine was blooming and soft sitar music played. Last Sunday’s regal lunch was a lovely escape from busy Udaipur, right on the edge of Lake Pichola.

The rooftop spans several levels and gives you 360-degree views, and there are two pools as well. Rooms are spacious, service is great, and the palace-style hotel has lovely views. The marble hallways do get noisy, and the gym and pool area are awkwardly placed. I’d generally recommend it.
