Hotel Amet Haveli

We really enjoyed the restaurant’s atmosphere and its good food, with views over the lake. Amet Haveli is a lovely heritage hotel overlooking Picholi lake in Udaipur, and it’s an excellent base for exploring the city. The rooms were great, and so was the staff.

A suite with a balcony facing the lake gave us beautiful views, and the bathroom was large and luxurious. Breakfast was fantastic, especially the Dosa, and they served proper coffee, the best we had in India. The staff were friendly and ready to help. It’s easy to walk to the city palace, taking in the old streets and all there is to see. Getting around by car in the old town is difficult, as you’ll see when you arrive. Our taxi driver didn’t come all the way to the hotel, so we walked the last 400m after arriving at 5am. When we left, we took an Auto (Tuk Tuk) to meet our car outside the old town. The heritage building doesn’t block sound to modern standards. We could hear restaurant guests past 11pm, and on some days chairs being moved for breakfast setup at 6:45am. That may be an issue if you’re a light sleeper. A few room details need attention: the toilet roll holder was crooked, there wasn’t enough storage to hang clothes, and the balcony chairs could be more comfortable. A sun lounger might be nice too. The iron we were given was dirty, though luckily it didn’t mark the shirt. With a few small fixes, this would be five stars across the board.

We found the food fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented, and even our 4-year-old son enjoyed it. The whole stay at Amet Haveli, from the room and dining to the service and atmosphere, felt worth the slightly high price. The property’s heritage character and lakeside setting are breathtaking, and waking up to Lake Pichola and the surrounding architecture was a lovely experience. We were there with my wife and our son, and the staff were polite, attentive, and always willing to help with a smile. They made sure our family was comfortable from the moment we arrived. I’d recommend it to people visiting Udaipur, whether traveling as a couple, with family, or solo.

The view from our room over the lake and Palace is one I won’t forget, especially after dark. The location is perfectly placed, and the hotel itself is hard to describe just how amazing it is. Everyone on staff was friendly and helpful. Service at the beautiful restaurant was a little slow, which is my one small complaint, but the breathtaking setting kept it from spoiling things. I’d highly recommend it.
